Access Request Steps and User Documentation
Before starting the Data Access Request, ensure that all team members who require access have created an account and become Registered Synapse users. Each member’s Synapse username will be needed for completing the Data Use Certificate

Complete your Data Use Certificate (DUC).

Draft your Intended Data Use (IDU) statement.

Institution Specific: |
A Data Access Request may only include team members from the same institution. If collaborators from multiple institutions are working on the same project, each institution must submit a separate Data Access Request. |

Intended Data Use (IDU) Specific: |
A separate Data Access Request must be submitted for each project or intended use of the data. As a result, an individual may have multiple approved access requests for the same dataset. |

Annual Access Period: |
Approved requests provide one year of access. |

Review Timeline: |
Data Access Request review typically takes 1–2 weeks. |

Request Ownership: |
The individual who submits a Data Access Request is responsible for managing it, including updates, changes, and annual renewals. Access Requests cannot be transferred to another user after submission, and Sage Bionetworks cannot submit updates on a user’s behalf. If the original submitter can no longer manage the request, another member of the research group must submit a new Data Access Request. |
